It’s been emotional. A 106km Ultra marathon in the Sahara desert-relentless heat (I can confirm, the Sahara is a tad warm 🥵), treacherous terrain, and a gruelling slog. But countered with sharing the experience with some quite amazing people!
The experience, once again, demonstrated the power of having a clear purpose, your ‘why’. My why:
1. To raise funds and awareness for veterans that have or are suffering.
2. To challenge myself to be better than yesterday.
3. To role model for my children.
4. To spend quality time with the people I love.
These are very personal and will differ for every one of the participants, but essential when you are in the hurt-locker-which I can assure you, I was! Every time I found myself at a low ebb, I would remind myself, “I am privileged to be able to be here and able to participate….some people are not!”
At the date of posting, over £200k has been raised by for 4 awesome veterans’ charities: REORG Charity, Head Up Charity, Team Forces, The Not Forgotten
Such an incredible effort by everyone. I have been humbled and inspired by so many stories of pure grit, determination, and never-give-up attitude during the jaunt in the sand.
A massive thankyou to all the organisers at Ultra 4 Charity, every single courageous participant that raised funds and pushed their limits, and to everyone that has been so kind to donate, it means a great deal 🙏
